inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Medan Sub-regional City Police dismantle a baby trafficking ring with nine suspects arrested on Thursday (1/15/2026).
In a statement, Medan Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, stated that the disclosure stemmed from information from the public regarding suspected human trafficking (TPPO) at a location in Medan.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate had an organized management system. A maid was responsible for operating social media applications and monitoring potential buyers. The employer (HD) was responsible for finding customers and conducting direct negotiations.
The uniqueness of this case lies in the division of tasks among the perpetrators in marketing babies on social media. In addition to arresting BS and HD, police also arrested a maid working for suspect HD.
The investigation indicates that this is not the first time this practice has occurred. Based on statements from witnesses and the suspect, baby trafficking has occurred at least twice at this location.
"Investigators are still investigating. There is information that another baby has been sold, but this is still under investigation," said Jean Calvijn.
So far, the baby trafficking transactions are known to be local. However, the police are still investigating the possibility of a broader, international network.
