inp.polri.go.id - Tabanan. The Tabanan Sub-regional Police have named five suspects in the alleged assault of a man identified as KD, who allegedly stole two chickens in the Hamlet of Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan, Bali.
The five suspects are MJ, WS, KB, ML, and ND.
Tabanan Sub-regional Police Chief, SuperintendentI Putu Bayu Pati, stated that his team is handling two cases simultaneously: an alleged theft handled by the Baturiti Sector Police and an alleged act of collective violence that resulted in the victim's death.
Although five suspects have been named, the police have not yet revealed their roles.
"We cannot yet reveal their respective roles because the investigation is still ongoing," he said in his statement on Monday (6/27/2026).
According to Putu, the incident began when residents apprehended a man suspected of stealing two chickens. The victim had previously caused community unrest due to alleged similar thefts.
However, Putu emphasized that vigilante action cannot be justified under any circumstances.
He said the entire legal process must be handed over to law enforcement officials in accordance with applicable regulations.
"The public is urged to maintain a safe, peaceful, and conducive public order and security situation and to refrain from any unlawful actions," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Head of the Tabanan Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Senior Inspector Made Teddy Satria Permana, stated that investigators have questioned 18 witnesses in the case.
From the results of the investigation, five people have been named as suspects in the alleged assault.
"Previously, they were questioned as witnesses. However, after we reviewed the electronic evidence we have and corroborated it with other witnesses, we have named them as suspects," he said.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional suspects may be named if new evidence is discovered.
Police are also investigating the motorcycle arson case that occurred after the incident, questioning several witnesses and collecting evidence.
The police affirmed their commitment to thoroughly investigating the entire series of events professionally, objectively, and in accordance with legal procedures.
