Inp.polri.go.id - Painan.  Heavy rains on Friday evening triggered floods in four villages in Batang Kapas District, South Pesisir Regency, West Sumatra, submerging 1,459 homes and causing significant disruption.

Floodwaters, reaching depths of around 60 centimeters, forced residents to seek assistance as emergency teams began relief efforts.

“The flooding was caused by heavy rain that started Friday afternoon. Our team is on the ground providing assistance and conducting assessments,” said Defrisiswardi, the Head of Emergency and Logistics at the South Pesisir Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), on Saturday (18/1/2025).

The floods affected Nagari IV Koto Hilia, Koto Nan Duo IV Koto Hilia, Taluak Tigo Sakato, and Sungai Nyalo IV Koto Mudiek, along with nearby areas such as Nagari South Painan and Kampung Gunung Bungkuk, according to antaranews.com.

The rain also caused landslides and felled trees, blocking the Padang-Bengkulu national road. Cleanup efforts continue, with heavy equipment awaited to clear debris, particularly at Bukit Pulai, where multiple blockages remain.
