FMD Task Force Ensures More than Three Millions of Farm Animals have Been Vaccinated

inp.polri.go.id -  The Task Force for Handling Mouth and Nail Diseases revealed that have vaccinated 3,772,423 farm animals. The vaccination step are spread across 25 provinces and 301 regencies/cities. The data also revealed that there are 549,545 animals that have been infected with FMD and further stated that 439,188 of them have been recovered while 88,420 are still have not recovered yet. There are several provinces that are included in the red zone, namely West Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi. Ways to prevent the spread of FMD in cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, deer, and pigs includes limiting animal movement, monitoring the traffic of those animals and implementing surveillance, prohibiting the entry of livestock from other areas, strict quarantine, good maintenance management, improving sanitation, disinfecting cage, and surroundings regularly. Coordinator of Expert Team who Handles Mouth and Nail Diseases, Wiku Adisasmito, stated that the vaccinations could save national food security. Wiku Adisasmito explained that in one of the journals released in 2021, well-organized vaccination activities will restore the productivity of livestock that have previously been affected by FMD or contracted FMD.
