inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Food Observer Society (Mappan), Wignyo Prasetyo, assessed that President Prabowo Subianto's food self-sufficiency program can help Indonesia facing economic challenges.

"Self-sufficiency is one of the important pillars in realizing national independence," said Wignyo in Jakarta, quoted by Antaranews on Thursday (5/23/2025).

According to Wignyo, many of Prabowo's food self-sufficiency programs have an impact on the country's food security.

Some of them are the free nutritious meal program, the opening of food barns and the low-cost housing construction program.

Other programs such as eradicating corruption and consolidating Danantara can also be beneficial for the sustainability of the country's food self-sufficiency program.

Not only that, Wignyo also said that this food self-sufficiency program can also free Indonesia from foreign dependence.

"The benefits of food self-sufficiency can create economic independence as it reduces dependence on imports and fluctuations in food prices in the international market," said Wignyo.

Therefore, Wignyo hopes that the government, through existing natural resources, can optimize food self-sufficiency in order to create national food security.
