The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo as a corruption suspect on Wednesday evening (11/10/2023), antaranews.com reported. "We have determined and announced the suspect, SYL, Minister of Agriculture 2019-2024," KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak said in a press conference, referring to former minister Limpo. In addition to Limpo, KPK has also named Agriculture Ministry's Secretary General Kasdi Subagyono and the Ministry's Director of Agricultural Machinery Muhammad Hata as corruption suspects in the same case. KPK has detained Kasdi following his questioning on Wednesday.  Both Limpo and Hatta did not attend his scheduled questioning on Wednesday on the ground that they had to visit their respective parents. Limpo has filed a pre-trial lawsuit with the South Jakarta District Court against his the corruption suspect designation. The first trial is scheduled to commence on Monday, October 30, 2023. In addition to corruption, KPK charges the suspects with extortion, gratification, and money laundering in the  case. Throughout this investigation, KPK has searched the official residence and office of then Minister Limpo in Jakarta as well as his private residence in Makassar. It has confiscated evidence, such as cash amounting Rp30 billion and documents. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
