inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government upholds the people's freedom of expression as stipulated in the constitution and UN law, but rejects all forms of anarchic actions that harm the wider community.
This was conveyed in a joint statement with the leadership of the DPR/MPR and the general chairmen of political parties in parliament, held at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Sunday (8/31/2025).
"We respect freedom of expression as stipulated in Article 19 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as Law Number 9 of 1998," he said.
The Head of State stated that the public's aspirations must be conveyed peacefully, without disrupting or threatening public order.
President Prabowo also did not deny the existence of signs of extrajudicial actions leading to treason and terrorism that colored the demonstrations in Jakarta and a number of regions.
"I order the police and the Indonesian National Military (TNI) to take the strongest possible action against any form of destruction of public facilities, looting of homes, or disruption of economic centers, in accordance with applicable law," he said.
