inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and eight political party chairmen in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) delivered a joint statement regarding the developments in the demonstrations taking place in Jakarta and a number of other cities.

In his speech at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday (8/31/2025), the Head of State expressed a number of shared views, ranging from imposing strict sanctions on legislators involved, to calling for joint efforts to maintain national security.

"The Indonesian National Police (INP) are currently investigating the officers who committed errors or violations. I have requested that this be done swiftly, transparently, and openly for the public to follow," he said.

President Prabowo also stated that the government respects the people's genuine freedom of expression in accordance with the constitution and international regulations. However, he emphasized that anarchic actions, destruction of public facilities, looting, and even treasonous attempts cannot be tolerated.

Furthermore, the President stated that political party leaders had agreed to take internal steps in the form of revoking the DPR membership of members deemed to have made false statements regarding the situation.

In addition, the DPR leadership also approved the revocation of a number of policies, including the amount of allowances for DPR members and the moratorium on overseas working visits.

The President also asked the DPR to immediately open a dialogue space with community leaders, students, and civil society groups so that aspirations can be conveyed peacefully.

At the end of his statement, Prabowo invited all elements of the nation to maintain national unity amidst political dynamics.

He reminded the public not to be provoked by parties who want to divide the Indonesian nation.
