Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated its goal to improve the quality of higher education while keeping university costs affordable for students, officials said Thursday (15/1/2026) after a major academic dialogue in Jakarta.
“We acknowledge that our constitutional mandate is to educate the nation, and we are exploring how universities can become advanced and high-quality without imposing heavy financial burdens on society or students,” said State Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Prasetyo Hadi, as quoted by antaranews.com
President Prabowo hosted 1,200 professors, deans, and university rectors at the Presidential Palace to discuss strategies for elevating academic standards and mitigating cost pressures. The dialogue also covered ways to increase the number of medical professionals in the country.
The government is currently assessing how to reduce operational costs at universities while enhancing overall institutional performance.
