inp.polri.go.id - Pontianak. The West Kalimantan Regional Police prepared personnel in all regions to anticipate the wild fires following a decreased rainfall until early February 2026.
Bambang added that this preparedness measure was taken after weather analysis showed that most of West Kalimantan was predicted to be dry, which poses a high risk of triggering land and forest fires.
"Based on our coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the West Kalimantan region is currently entering a period of low rainfall. This condition is highly susceptible to forest and land fires, so all our ranks are on alert to take mitigation measures as early as possible," explained the Head of Public Relations of the West Kalimantan Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Bambang Suharyono, on Wednesday (1/14/2026).
In their effort, the West Kalimantan Regional Police will boost their integrated patrols in areas known to be prone to forest and land fires, including plantations, peatlands, and open areas frequently used for land clearing.
In addition to patrols, the police are also intensifying supervision of land clearing activities by the community. The West Kalimantan Regional Police have strictly prohibited land clearing by burning, as it has the potential to trigger fires that are difficult to control.
"We urge all members of the public to refrain from burning in any form. If any fires are found, report them immediately so they can be dealt with quickly before they spread and impact public health or economic activity," he added, as reported by antaranews.
