The Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy collaborates in helping farmers affected by flood across the country. “We will continue to provide free seeds, tools, and other aids. All of this provision are given as Indonesia was under the extreme weather of El Nino and rainy season of La Nina,” said Amran on Tuesday (2/20/2024). He says that the flood disaster and also the impact of El Nino have caused the rice price in several region rocketed, demanding the government to respond quickly as initial anticipatory measures. Amran emphasized that the government would not stand idly and watched the farmers suffer when they need the government the most. However, he also urged the farmers to work together amongst each other to ensure that their field could continue to be used. “We are now trying to find alternative ways and solutions to overcome the situation. We are not going to stand idly. Now is the time to move together for brighter and better Indonesia,” said Amran. Meanwhile, Effendy states that in 2023, National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) records there are 331 or 44% of floods occurred in that year. The disaster caused farmers to loss as most of their crops failed to harvest. The data showed around 5,409 in more than 22 provinces were failed to harvest. “As was instructed by the President, government will provide aids to farmers. We have determined that the provision will be given to those who failed to harvest their crops,” Muhadjir. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
