Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Coordinating Minister of Economic Sector Airlangga Hartanto states that the discussion of Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA) ASEAN set to complete in 2025.
“We hoped that this agreement could be completed in year 2025. The draft has been made and Thailand was tasked to follow this up until 2025,” said Airlangga during the closing of 43rd ASEAN Summit press conference.
He stated that DEFA has become one of the main priorities from the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
“One of the priorities from the ‘Epicentrum of Growth’ is Digital Economic Framework Agreement. So, this is the masterplan made during Indonesian leadership,” says Airlangga.
DEFA includes agreement regarding digitalization such as digital talents, ID digital, cyber security, retraining, skill improvement, infrastructure, and interoperability in ASEAN.
In comparison, DEFA predicted able to push ASEAN economy up to 2 trillion USD in 2030 while without it, the digital economy is only able to reach 1 trillion USD.
Negotiation Committee (NC) of DEFA ASEAN was led by Thailand with 10 main negotiators from ASEAN member states. The Committee has the responsibility of negotiating DEFA terms and condition based on principle, process, and time period identified in Negotiation Framework DEFA ASEAN.
The first meeting of ASEAN DEFA NC scheduled to be held by the end of 2023 with the next meeting in 2024 and 2025 with the aim of completing the discussion of ASEAN DEFA.
