inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the government has mapped 88 regencies/cities that will be the focus of efforts to accelerate the eradication of extreme poverty.
"Through various government programs that can still be distributed, they will be refocused on these 88 regencies/cities," said Muhaimin on Tuesday (5/12/2026).
He hopes this effort will significantly reduce extreme poverty to 0 percent by 2026, as mandated by Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025 concerning the Optimization of the Implementation of Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty.
Furthermore, the response strategy in these priority areas will not only rely on cash social assistance but will also strengthen the empowerment ecosystem.
Going forward, productive-age citizens will receive short-term job training to enable them to quickly enter the job market or become entrepreneurs.
"Social assistance is a temporary cushion, and the key word we are continuing to implement is empowerment. Among the empowerment programs we are continuously promoting is providing training for the extremely poor within a short period of time and then channeling them into employment, thereby eliminating various social protection assistance programs," explained Muhaimin.
The success of this regional strategy depends heavily on the accurate use of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN). Muhaimin acknowledged the challenges on the ground, where the removal of ineligible aid recipients had caused public unrest.
Therefore, he emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure readiness in each region to address information gaps and ensure that social assistance is truly targeted.
"We hope that Presidential Instruction 8 of 2025 will truly serve as a foundation for all Poverty Reduction and Public Welfare Improvement Programs (Pro-Kesra) as part of the national development priorities," said the Coordinating Minister for PM.
