Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra maintained the government's commitment to ensuring the protection of Indonesian citizens facing legal challenges abroad, especially in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, where many are on death row.

“The government will focus on protecting our citizens after finalizing the transfer of foreign prisoners, like those from Australia and the Philippines,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (24/1/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Minister Yusril stressed that all Indonesian citizens will receive equal protection, regardless of their crimes or ideologies. The government will consult with the families of affected citizens before considering any legal transfers.

In December 2024, Indonesia repatriated five Australian nationals involved in the Bali Nine case and Mary Jane, a Filipino facing execution in Indonesia. The government is also considering the return of member of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI)  Encep Nurjaman, known as Hambali, from Guantanamo Bay.
