inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, highlighted the importance of vocational education to encourage the transformation of migrant worker placement from low-skilled to medium-high-skilled sectors.
"The President emphasized that the protection of migrant workers cannot be separated from improving their quality and skills. Therefore, vocational education is key to producing professional and competitive migrant workers," said the Minister of P2MI on Wednesday (10/15/2025).
He considered strengthening vocational education a crucial part of President Prabowo Subianto's directive, which emphasizes improving workforce competency as a major strategy for Indonesia's human development.
This transformation, he said, will have a significant impact on the image and position of Indonesian migrant workers in the global market.
"We must not stop at placement schemes as domestic workers or domestic assistants. We must be able to compete in sectors that require skilled labor," he stressed.
Furthermore, Mukhtarudin also emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in realizing this vision. The Indonesian Migrant Workers Association (KP2MI), he said, is open to collaborating with various organizations to strengthen education and outreach on safe migration.
"We are ready to collaborate, especially in educating the public about the importance of proper departure procedures and understanding the rights of migrant workers," said the Minister of P2MI.
He also emphasized the KP2MI's commitment to continuously strengthening synergies with the educational sector, community institutions, and youth organizations to create competent, competitive, and protected Indonesian migrant workers.
