Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government has pledged to accelerate the repair of public facilities damaged during last week’s violent demonstrations, which spread from Jakarta to East Java and Makassar in South Sulawesi.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya said in his statement on Tuesday (2/9/2025) that the directive follows President Prabowo Subianto’s firm order to restore infrastructure immediately.
“As a follow-up to President Prabowo’s instructions, we held this meeting to review progress and ensure that all damaged public facilities are repaired so that communities can resume normal activities,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com
The unrest, triggered by the death of raid-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan in Jakarta on 28 August 2025, led to the burning of public facilities such as bus shelters, toll gates, and the historic Grahadi State Building in Surabaya.
The Public Works Ministry estimated nearly Rp 900 billion in infrastructure losses, with East Java and Makassar the hardest hit. Emergency funds have been allocated to accelerate recovery efforts.
