Inp.polri.go.id - Dumai. The Customs Office in Dumai intercepted two motor vessels attempting to smuggle mangrove Logs from Sinaboi, Rokan Hilir District, across the Malacca Strait to Malaysia.
The seizure was made during a routine maritime operation on Monday night, with both vessels KM Putra Tunggal and KM 10 Putri secured at Pokala Pier, Dumai.
“For the logs type, I have not received details from investigators. But based on my observation at the evidence storage site, the logs appears to be suitable for construction piles, possibly water-resistant timber,” said Dumai Customs Office spokesperson Dedi Husni on Tuesday (2/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Authorities confirmed the cargo was unloaded for further inspection while crews and several undocumented migrant workers were also detained.
Officials stressed the investigation is ongoing and a formal release will follow. The operation was part of joint efforts by Customs Riau and Dumai to curb cross-border smuggling of natural forest products.
