In a post-match uproar following the clash between Gresik United (GU) and Deltras FC, the Gresik Sub-regional Police launched an investigation into the supporter turmoil outside Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium during the ongoing Liga 2 Indonesia. Gresik Police Chief, Superintendent Adhitya Panji Anom, emphasized the commitment to swiftly identify suspects, particularly individuals suspected of provoking the unrest.  Investigators have collected evidence, including video recordings, CCTV footage, and other materials, to shed light on the incident. The unrest originated from the disappointment of home team supporters due to their team's 1-2 defeat against Deltras FC. Attempts by some fans to approach the management by forcefully entering the stadium were thwarted by security personnel. Subsequently, some fans resorted to stone-throwing at the Deltras FC bus. Despite the police's efforts to de-escalate the situation and urging supporters to disperse, the tensions heightened. In response, the police exercised measured force by deploying tear gas after sustaining stone-throwing attacks, resulting in injuries to 10 police officers. Chief Adhitya defended the use of tear gas, saying that it adhered to established procedures. The deployment occurred in an open space outside the stadium and underwent a rigorous evaluation process. The police maintained their stance for approximately an hour, but supporters remained unyielding. In the aftermath, seven supporters were hospitalized due to respiratory issues, though they have since been discharged with no serious injuries reported. The police, however, had 10 personnel injured, with five still receiving medical attention for head injuries sustained from the stone-throwing incidents. (mg/fa/pr/nm)
