In a strong rebuke, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has condemned the fatal Israeli attack on the Indonesian hospital in Gaza, describing it as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of several civilian lives and drew international condemnation. "Such an attack is a clear violation of international humanitarian law," she said on Monday (20/11/23). Minister Retno urged all nations, especially those with close ties to Israel, to use their influence and capabilities to compel Israel to stop its aggression. The Foreign Ministry has lost contact with three Indonesian citizens who were volunteering at the Indonesian hospital. "I have personally contacted UNRWA in Gaza to inquire about the situation at the Indonesian hospital, and the reply was that UNRWA was also unable to contact anyone at the hospital," Minister Retno said, referring to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. She also revealed that attempts have been made to contact the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Red Cross, but no response has yet been received. Currently in Beijing, China, Minister Retno has been working with the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine and the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Together, they are seeking support from the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian aid. After their visit to  China, the OIC foreign ministers will travel to Moscow to seek similar support. (mg/ndt/pr/nm)
