Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has said that the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage must proceed as scheduled despite the escalating geopolitical dynamics currently affecting the Middle East.
"With this global geopolitical situation, any issues regarding the pilgrimage must be managed so the worship can still be performed optimally," she said following a plenary session at the DPR Complex on Thursday (12/3/2026, emphasizing that the state must guarantee the safety and comfort of all Indonesian pilgrims.
The Speaker called upon all relevant stakeholders to conduct rigorous evaluations, mitigation strategies, and anticipatory measures to address regional instability. Her statement came following a report from Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, who confirmed that while regional airspace closures have impacted international flight paths, Saudi authorities currently categorize Jeddah, Mecca, and Madinah as safe and conducive for worship, according to antaranews.com
The House’s relevant commissions are set to conduct further studies to ensure that logistical and security frameworks remain robust. This proactive stance follows the recent approval of the Hajj Management Bill as a House initiative, signaling a legislative commitment to protecting Indonesian citizens performing their religious duties abroad during times of international conflict.
