Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has issued a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) involving seven ministries to establish comprehensive guidelines for the utilization of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all educational levels.
“The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs coordinated seven ministries to regulate AI use in formal education, from early childhood to higher education, as well as informal family settings,” said Coordinating Minister Pratikno during the signing in Jakarta on Thursday (12/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The regulation emphasizes age-appropriate digital engagement, strictly controlling screen time and content for younger students while allowing more flexibility for higher education. For primary and secondary levels, the decree specifically prohibits "instant AI" that provides direct answers to assignments, favoring AI designed for specific pedagogical simulations instead.
This cross-sectoral policy involves the Ministries of Home Affairs, Religious Affairs, Basic and Secondary Education, Higher Education, Communication and Digital Affairs, Population, and Women’s Empowerment. It aims to harness technological benefits while mitigating the psychological and cognitive risks associated with premature or unsupervised AI exposure.
