Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Thick haze suspected to be caused by forest and land fires (karhutla) appeared early Friday (25/7/2025) on Jalan Ahmad Yani, West Landasan Ulin, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.
“I thought it was morning dew, but the smell was pungent like burning smoke,” said Muhammad Rifki, a motorist who passed through the area, as quoted by antaranews.com.
On Thursday afternoon, fires were reported in two nearby locations—Central Landasan Ulin near UIN Antasari Campus and Pengayuan, South Landasan Ulin —about 6 to 7 kilometers south of the haze zone. Local and South Kalimantan disaster mitigation teams (BPBD) responded to both incidents.
“The team quickly contained the fire in Landasan Ulin Selatan, but joint responders are still working at UIN Antasari,” said Muhammad Rijali, a staff of BPBD South Kalimantan.
The haze spread across a 4-kilometer stretch of road but was less visible near Syamsudin Noor International Airport, 4.5 kilometers away.
