Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and the United States have agreed to cooperate on national security aspects of strategic commodity access to prevent misuse of sensitive materials. The agreement is part of a broader reciprocal trade deal recently announced by the White House.
“There are raw materials that can be used for explosives. Strategic trade management is crucial, allowing both sides to monitor the import and export of dual-use goods,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto during a joint press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (24/72025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The U.S. is particularly focused on safeguarding Indonesia’s critical minerals used in aerospace, artificial intelligence, data centers, and space industries.
“They want to ensure these don’t fall into the wrong hands, including potential terrorist use,” Minister Airlangga added, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The deal, linked to the recent tariff cut on Indonesian exports to the U.S. from 32% to 19%, includes cooperation on export controls, investment security, and anti-circumvention.
