Inp.polri.go.id - Paris. The Paris 2024 Olympics opened with a historic parade on the Seine River, featuring 7,000 athletes from 205 countries on 85 boats with the procession covering 6 kilometers from Austerlitz Bridge to Trocadero, near the Eiffel Tower, on Friday (26/7/2024)

For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony was held outside a traditional stadium.

About 300,000 spectators watched from specially constructed riverbanks, while an additional 200,000 watched from nearby balconies and apartments, as reported by antaranews.com.

Greek athletes led the parade, honoring the birthplace of the Olympics.

Despite threats of terrorism and heavy rain forecasts, the event proceeded smoothly, blending French culture and historical landmarks with Olympic traditions. Pop star Lady Gaga performed for VIPs and guests, adding to the festivities.

Organizers aimed to showcase Parisian landmarks and promote diversity and gender equality. The ceremony was protected by extensive security, including 45,000 police officers and 10,000 soldiers.
