Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Sixteen construction workers building a health center in Sinak Barat, Central Papua, were released by the armed criminal group (KKB) and safely returned to Timika on Friday morning (6/12/2024).

Chief of Puncak Sub-regional Police, Senior Inspector  I Nyoman Punia, confirmed the workers' safe arrival after being escorted by TNI-Polri personnel.

"They are now in Timika and in stable condition," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The workers were held by KKB members, reportedly from the Lekagak Telenggen and Kelenak Murib factions. The group demanded payment for labor and compensation for construction materials like sand, wood, and stones taken from local residents.

A video released by the KKB on 30 November 2024, showing their demands, went viral on social media. Following this, the Puncak District administration paid Rp 3 billion to settle the claims.

Despite the group's presence around the health center, the workers reportedly continued their activities until their release and subsequent evacuation by security forces.
