Hundreds of People Repatriated Following the Riot in East Java

inp.polri.go.id - East Java. The East Java Regional Police and its ranks have arrested 997 people, suspected of rioting during a demonstration that ended in chaos in East Java at the end of August 2025.

East Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Nanang Avianto, said that the wave of demonstrations in East Java occurred in 10 regions, including Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Malang City and Regency, Kediri City and Regency, to Jember.

"We will always provide information regarding the development of the anarchic demonstration case that occurred in the jurisdiction of the East Java Regional Police. This data (997 arrested), was collected from August 29 to September 16," he said on Friday (9/19/2025).

Of the nearly one thousand people who were detained, 582 adults and 415 children were in contact with the law (ABH). The East Java Regional Police and its ranks are conducting further investigations on the 997 people.

To date, a total of 682 people have been repatriated. The majority of them are minors, so they were returned to their parents. Meanwhile, 315 others are undergoing further legal proceedings.

"And this is our obligation, when we arrested these perpetrators, then we sorted them out so that we repatriated 682 people, they were minors, high school and below," he explained.
