Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Immigration has detained 16 foreigners in Sukabumi, West Java, suspected of operating an international love scamming syndicate.
The group, consisting of 12 Chinese citizens, one Taiwanese, and three Malaysians, was arrested following an intelligence-led operation that thwarted their attempt to flee.
"They are indicated to be practicing love scamming targeting foreign victims. They operated in Sukabumi, while their victims were in the United States and Mexico," said Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
Officials seized 50 computers, 150 mobile phones, and various networking equipment during the raid at a resort in Pelabuhan Ratu. Investigators revealed the group had planned to rent the facility for a year and recruit 50 more members.
The suspects are currently held at the Sukabumi Immigration Detention Center facing deportation for violating the Immigration Act by engaging in activities that endanger public order and misuse stay permits.
