Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Directorate General of Immigration introduced the Transition Stay Permit policy, also known as bridging visa, to facilitate the transition for previous stay permit holders in obtaining new permits.

Director General Silmy Karim explained on Tuesday (23/4/2024) that this policy eases the transition process for foreign nationals in Indonesia.

"Foreign nationals holding visit stay permits applied through evisa.imigrasi.go.id are allowed to obtain Limited Stay Permits without leaving Indonesian territory," he said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Similarly, foreign nationals with limited stay permits and permanent stay permits that could no longer be extended receive new permits without leaving Indonesian territory.

Regulated in Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation Number 11 of 2024, enacted on 1 April 2024, the bridging visa has a validity period of 60 days and was only valid onshore, for foreigners already in Indonesian territory.

This permit becomes invalid upon leaving Indonesian territory.

Foreigners wishing to use the bridging visa have to apply through the evisa.imigrasi.go.id website and make immigration fee payments at least three days before their previous permit expires.

Silmy emphasized that the bridging visa will save the visa holders time, energy, and accommodation costs by allowing them to avoid leaving Indonesian territory to apply for a new visa.
