Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Immigration has postponed the issuance of its new red-and-white passport design, originally scheduled for launch on the country’s 80th Independence Day, which falls on 17 August 2025.
“After a review, we have decided to delay the implementation of the red-and-white passport. This decision was made responsibly and in consultation with various stakeholders,” said Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman on Thursday (17/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The decision was based on Presidential Instruction No. 1/2025 on budget efficiency and public feedback urging the government to prioritize the passport's substantive strength over design. Analysis of 1,642 social media posts between August 2024 and July 2025 showed a public preference for service improvements and global recognition of Indonesia’s passport.
Yusman emphasized that while the design rollout is paused, efforts to enhance Indonesia’s passport through digital systems and inter-agency cooperation continue.
