Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The West Java Regional Police have uncovered a baby trafficking network accused of sending Indonesian babies to Singapore using falsified identity documents.
Six babies were rescued in the operation, which spanned multiple provinces and involved fabricated birth certificates and passports.
“This was an organized syndicate operating across regions, recruiting pregnant women via social media, falsifying their children’s documents in Pontianak, West Kalimantan and smuggling the babies abroad,” said Senior SuperintendentSurawan, the West Java POlice Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Women and Children on Thursday (17/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Investigations revealed that the babies were specifically requested by individuals in Singapore, with forged civil documents enabling illegal cross-border adoptions.
Authorities are investigating the possible involvement of local civil registry officials. Of the 16 arrested, 13 are in custody.
