Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Immigration has tightened the requirements for issuing Indonesian passports to former foreign citizens who have obtained Indonesian citizenship.
Director of Visa and Travel Documents Eko Budianto said on Friday (28/11/2025) that the policy, a Circular Letter No. IMI.2-1054.GR.01.01/2025, effective nationwide since 17 November 2025, ensures legal clarity over immigration documents previously held under foreign citizenship.
“We want to ensure that every former foreign citizen has fully completed all administrative and legal obligations related to releasing their foreign citizenship,” he said, as cited by antaranews.com.
Applicants must now submit proof of returning all immigration documents issued when they were still foreign nationals, a certificate of release from their former nationality, and evidence of returning their foreign passport to the issuing country. Immigration officers are required to verify document authenticity and may postpone service if inconsistencies arise.
The policy aims to strengthen administrative verification, prevent misuse of Indonesian travel documents, and uphold the integrity of immigration functions
