Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) explains that several areas such as Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara would be under high temperatures as the cause of the east wind. “Currently, several southern areas in Indonesia is considerably still in drought season. This was due to the easterly winds from the southern hemisphere which carry dry air masses that are still blowing quite strongly,” says the Deputy of BMKG Meteorology Development, Guswanto, quoted from merdeka.com on Thursday (9/28/2023). Moreover, the impact of El Nino and Positive IOD has the potential to reduce the formation of rain clouds which causes the potential for rainfall to decrease. “Due to the relatively dry atmosphere conditions, it is difficult for airborne pollutants to be dispersed and washed away by rainfall," explained Guswanto. Guswanto adds that the maximum air temperature in southern Indonesia over the last 10 days reached 35-37 degrees, which is still normal. “This is not something new and it is normal in drought season and seasonal transition periods," he concluded.
