inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and Australia are strengthening cooperation in the forestry sector, particularly in timber legality, sustainable forest product trade, and sustainable forest management.

This was discussed during a bilateral meeting between the two countries on the sidelines of the 30th APEC Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) Meeting in Shenzhen, China, earlier this week.

"Indonesia and Australia have a shared interest in ensuring that forest product trade is legal, sustainable, and beneficial for both countries," said Krisdianto, Director of Forest Product Management and Administration (IPHH) at the Ministry of Forestry, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday (7/31/2026).

According to him, the strengthened partnership will also further strengthen forestry governance and increase trust in traded forest products.

"Increased cooperation also strengthens forestry governance and trust in traded forest products," he said.

He said the understanding between the two parties was in line with the direction of the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni, that strengthening international cooperation in the forestry sector must be directed towards strengthening transparent, accountable and sustainable forest governance.

Through partnerships with various countries, including Australia, Indonesia continues to encourage improved legality and traceability standards for forest products, expanded market access for sustainable forestry products, and developed collaborations that benefit communities and support forest conservation efforts.
