Cambodia and Indonesia have pledged to strengthen cooperation in combating online fraud, describing technology-based fraud as a complex global issue requiring international collaboration, according to a press statement issued Wednesday (7/29/2026) by the Cambodian Commission for Combating Online Fraud (CCOS).

The commitment was agreed upon during a meeting in Phnom Penh on Tuesday afternoon (7/28/2026) local time between Cambodian Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, who also serves as head of the CCOS Secretariat, and visiting Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno.

Sinarith emphasized Cambodia's strong commitment to combating online fraud, noting that Cambodia will host the International Conference on Combating Online Fraud in Phnom Penh on September 23-24 to share experiences and discuss further countermeasures.

Meanwhile, Arif Havas Oegroseno praised Cambodia's crackdown, stating that online fraud forms a global fraud ecosystem that requires collective action to dismantle.

Arif added that Indonesia is ready to support Cambodia by strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officials and enhancing cross-border cooperation.

Cambodia has launched an unprecedented nationwide crackdown on cyber fraud networks to ensure public safety and restore its international image.

According to a government statement released last Friday (7/24/2026), Cambodian authorities shut down 737 online fraud centers across the country, including 72 casinos, between June 2025 and June 2026. As of June of this year, 21,102 foreign nationals from 38 nationalities had been deported in connection with these illegal operations.
