Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia triumphed 1-0 over Myanmar in their opening match of the 2024 ASEAN Cup Group B at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Monday (9/12/2024).

The only goal of the match came in the 76th minute when Myanmar’s goalkeeper, Zin Nyi Aung, inadvertently scored an own goal while attempting to clear Asnawi Mangkualam's shot, as reported by antaranews.com.

Coach Shin Tae-yong made several surprising decisions, including benching Rafael Struick and opting for a front pairing of Hokky Caraka and Arkhan Kaka. Pratama Arhan and Alfriyanto Nico also played in unfamiliar wing-back roles.

The first half saw Indonesia struggle with ball control and passing, allowing Myanmar to create some early chances, but goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi was alert and kept the score level.

In the second half, Coach Shin’s substitutions improved Indonesia’s performance. After several near-misses, Asnawi’s goal in the 76th minute broke the deadlock. Indonesia held on for a 1-0 victory, temporarily leading Group B with three points.

Their next match is against Laos on 12 December 2024.
