Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evacuated 926 Indonesian citizens from Sudan following artillery attacks in El Fasher, North Darfur.

“As many as 926 Indonesians have been evacuated, while around 40 remain in Sudan due to work or family reasons,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Friday (9/8/2024).

She expressed gratitude for Sudan's assistance during the evacuation, acknowledging the challenges of the operation due to the large number and unsafe conditions.

The Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum has relocated operations from Khartoum to Port Sudan for security reasons.

Minister Retno also highlighted that the number of people displaced from Sudan has reached 4 million, with the country facing health crises including monkeypox, dengue, malaria, and malnutrition.

The conflict between Sudanese forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary force, has claimed 18,800 lives and displaced around 10 million since April last year.
