Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Head of National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) the Indonesian Military Force (TNI) Lieutenant General Suharyanto states that Indonesia has experienced anomaly in disaster which linked to the situation and condition of weather phenomenon. “If we saw the phenomenon outside West Sumatra, what we are feared is dry hydrometeorological disaster,” said Suharyanto on Monday (3/11/2024). Although the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency have stated until late 2024 there would lots of rains, BNPB recorded there are four locations in Riau experiencing wildfires. “This is the anomaly that we experienced now. Every year, there has been earthquake, eruption, flood and landslide. While not far from there, there are wildfires,” continued Suharyanto. The government now is more concerned with dwindling of water supplies due to the dry hydrometeorological disaster such as wildfires. All regions need to be aware of the drought disaster as it would affect the food stocks. During coordination meeting of disaster handling, BNPB reminds regional heads and related stakeholders in convincing the public that the alert situation will not last for long. “Because it could affect to the service and handling operation during emergency situation,” explained Suharyanto. Furthermore, he also received a report that the distribution of aids to the flood and landslide victims are halted due to various challenges. Therefore, he implored regional governments to ensure no victims are left without supplies. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
