The Primary Needs of Flood and Landslide Victims Have been Fulfilled: BNPB

Head of National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) the Indonesian Military Force (TNI) Lieutenant General Suharyanto states the primary need of flood and landslide victims in several areas of West Sumatra have been fulfilled. Previously, the province has been hit with flood and landslide, killing at least 30 victims and six still on the search. Five regions worst affected by the disaster are South Pesisir Regency, Mentawai Island Regency, Padang City, Padang Pariaman Regency, and West Pasaman Regency. “This is an alert situation and we have to ensure the primary need of the victims are fulfilled,” said Head of BNPB on Monday (3/11/2024). According to him, meeting the primary needs of the victims is the priority during alert situation. “We have agreed that the safety of the people is our highest priority,” stressed Suharyanto. Meanwhile the West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi says the government has given their best effort in aiding the people affected by the disaster. Other than building public kitchen, the government have also in the middle of relocating the victims house. Mahyeldi states that the regional government and related institutions are acting fast in handling the disaster. He continues that his party is also coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to repair damaged infrastructure. On the other hand, there are several of damaged infrastructure that has been repaired. Those are the bridge connecting to Minangkabau International Airport and the road to Bengkulu via South Pesisir Regency. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
