inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno assessed that the TB case in Indonesia has become concerning. 

Pratikno assessed that its handling must be carried out with the same seriousness as handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is a serious problem. We must prioritize TB management to form a critical mass and a strong social movement, starting from the community to the national leadership," said Pratikno on Tuesday (9/30/2025).

He explained that TB is a national problem that must be addressed comprehensively by all parties. Deaths from TB globally reached 1 billion people in 200 years or an average of 5 million per year which even exceeds deaths from COVID-19 globally.

Based on the Global Tuberculosis Report 2024 published by the World Health Organization (WHO), Indonesia ranks second with the highest number of TB cases after India.

Pratikno emphasized the importance of concrete steps, starting with raising public awareness through campaigns on the dangers of TB utilizing pop culture, expanding mandatory screening to obtain accurate data and prevent transmission, and ensuring complete treatment.

He also emphasized that health promotion and behavioral change are key to preventing TB from continuing to spread and claiming many lives.

Pratikno himself has met with the President and requested support for an immediate discussion of the TB issue in a Closed Meeting. He hopes there will be collaboration between the President's directives and joint community initiatives on the ground.
