Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf confirmed that 100 Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) officially began operations on Friday (15/8/2025).
The program is part of the government’s priority to expand access to quality education for children from the poorest households.
“As of today, 100 schools have opened, and in September around 60 more will follow. In total, some 16,000 students will begin studying in Sekolah Rakyat during the 2025–2026 period,” Minister Saifullah said after attending the government’s 2026 budget presentation, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is coordinating with other agencies to ensure adequate facilities, including classrooms, dormitories, laptops, and health coverage. The schools adopt a boarding system, integrating education with social protection and family empowerment.
President Prabowo Subianto had stated that 200 to 300 new schools should be added each year as part of poverty alleviation efforts, ensuring that all children can access quality education.
