Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed that laboratory tests on 10 samples of “premium medium” rice showed high levels of fraud, with broken rice content reaching up to 59 percent.
“We tested 10 samples, and the broken rice level was between 30 and 59 percent,” he said during the presentation of the 2026 State Budget and Financial Note in Jakarta on Friday (15/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Under government standards, premium medium rice should contain no more than 15 percent broken grains. The findings show consumers have been misled into paying for rice far below official quality standards.
Earlier, the Agriculture Ministry estimated consumer losses at Rp 99.35 trillion due to rice adulteration practices involving 212 brands. Authorities have pledged strict enforcement to clean up distribution and restore fairness in the rice market.
Minister Amran added that crackdowns are pushing consumers toward traditional markets, where rice is cheaper, more transparent, and trusted.
