Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia officially launched international carbon trading on Monday (20/1/2025) at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, marking a significant step toward achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) climate targets.

Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized the importance of implementing a carbon economic value mechanism, including carbon trading, to support climate action.

“The Indonesian government is striving to meet its NDC targets, including through the implementation of a carbon economic value mechanism such as carbon trading," he said during the launch, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The initiative is based on Presidential Regulation No. 98 of 2021, which governs carbon valuation and greenhouse gas emission control.

To ensure integrity, Indonesia has strengthened its National Registry System (SRN) and established infrastructure such as Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) standards and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificates (SPE-GRK).

Key projects under this program include hydropower plants and gas-fired power plants, with estimated emission reductions ranging from 5,000 to 750,000 tons of CO2 equivalent.
