Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia's bid for a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics was deferred following a 1-2 defeat against Iraq in the third-place playoff of the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday (2/5/2024).

The loss means Indonesia will now face a playoff against Guinea from the 2023 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on 9 May 2024 in France, according to antaranews.com.

Securing third place in the AFC U-23 Championship, Iraq joins Japan and Uzbekistan in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The game saw Indonesia initially take the lead through Ivar Jenner's goal before Iraq's Zaid Tahseen Hantoosh equalized. Iraq then won the game with Ali Jasim's goal in extra time.

Despite Indonesia's 52% possession, they struggled to create chances, managing only 17 shots, two on target. In contrast, Iraq had 22 shots, seven on target, including both goals.
