Indonesia-Netherland 5th Bilateral Maritime Forum Presents Stronger Cooperation

Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment enhance maritime collaboration with Netherlands after 5th Bilateral Maritime Forum (BMF) of Indonesia-Netherland. Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination reveals there are three main topics discussed at the meeting. The three topics are Sustainable Port Development and Renewable Maritime Energy, Sustainable Shipbuilding, and Maritime Education. “Today’s BMF is to ensure that our dialogue would improve our mutual benefit by discussing three priority sectors in our cooperation at Sustainable Port Development and Renewable Maritime Energy, Sustainable Shipbuilding, and Maritime Education,” says Deputy Jodi on Monday (10/16/2023). Jody then explains that in Sustainable Port Development and Renewable Maritime Energy, Indonesia is interested in infrastructure and renewable energy source technology development such as tidal and wind power, as well as hydrogen energy. “For port development, our goal is to build world-class transportation, improving the logistics ecosystem, and improving the supply chain, while also preserves environment so that the development of infrastructure and the technology could go hand in hand,” explains Jodi. He also says the cooperation in shipbuilding with Netherland has huge potentials, especially when Indonesia's expertise workforce in technological landscape is going up rapidly. “Therefore, this kind of collaboration could enhance our ship industry might,” adds Jodi. The cooperation also presents investment opportunities that would prove beneficial for both countries. For Indonesia itself, the improvement of shipbuilding could push Indonesian maritime sector for the better. With the cooperation in the first two sectors, this presents the importance of maritime education. Several efforts have been carried out by Indonesia such as collaborative program, student exchange, scholarships and internships. Other than the three issue, BMF also presents pledges in fishery cooperation between Netherland Ecofish with Cilacap Samudera Fishing Industry Inc. and Inti Mas Surya Inc. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
