Inp.polri.go.id - Ponogoro. The government has officially nominated Ponorogo Regency and Malang City to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

“Ponorogo, and also Malang, have been selected for nomination to UNESCO. This is a long journey towards becoming part of the global creative cities,” said Judha Slamet Sarwo Edhie, the Head of the Ponorogo Culture, Tourism, Youth, and Sports Department, on Thursday (17/10/2024).

Ponorogo aimed to represent Indonesia in the UCCN's Craft and Folk Art category, which covers cultural arts, fashion, media, crafts, and cuisine. The regency previously reached the top six candidates in 2023 but was not selected.

Ponorogo is also awaiting UNESCO’s decision on Reog Ponorogo as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The announcement is expected between 2 to 7 December  2024. This recognition is expected to boost international cooperation and promote local culture, contributing to the creative economy.

Ponorogo's nomination marked an important milestone in the regency's efforts to be recognized globally.
