Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government is preparing for potential deportations of Indonesian citizens in the United States due to stricter immigration policies under President Donald Trump.
A coordination meeting was held in Jakarta to outline protective measures for affected citizens on Tuesday (29/4/2025).
“The priority is Indonesian nationals who are either undocumented or face immigration issues,” said Achmad Brahmantyo Machmud, theDeputy Assistant for Immigration Governance at the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The government is ready to issue emergency travel documents and deploy support teams should mass deportations occur. Officials are also proposing revisions to Ministerial Regulation No. 19/2024 to allow flexibility in passport issuance abroad.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recorded over 60,000 Indonesians have registered with the Washington, D.C. embassy, with thousands lacking valid immigration documents. As of 21 April 2025, 15 Indonesians have been detained in the U.S. for immigration violations.
