Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has instructed aviation authorities to investigate recent bomb threats targeting Saudia Airliens flights carrying Hajj pilgrims, despite the threats being confirmed as hoaxes.
“We must not underestimate any threat. Even hoaxes must be followed up seriously,” Dudy said on Thursday (26/6/2025), emphasizing the importance of vigilance to ensure public safety in air transport.
The threats forced two Saudia Airlines flights—each carrying over 400 Indonesian pilgrims—to make emergency landings at Kualanamu Airport, North Sumatra, on June 17 and 21. The first threat came via email; the second was phoned in to air traffic control.
Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa said the ministry has coordinated with Saudi Arabia’s GACA, as well as Indonesia’s BIN, BSSN, and BNPT, to trace the sources.
“We hope for concrete results from their investigations,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Authorities stress that, even if unfounded, such threats demand strict response to uphold aviation safety.
