Indonesia once again hosted one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, MotoGP, in Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, states that the MotoGP Indonesia would be interesting with how fierce the competition between racers. “This becomes our second time in hosting MotoGP and would be interesting because the difference of points between the first and the second best racer of this season is pretty close,” says Sandiaga. In this season, the top positions in MotoGP standings is Ducati racer from Italia Francesco Bagnaia with 319 points, followed by Jorge Martin from Spains with 3 points difference. MotoGP Indonesia itself is the 15th MotoGP series of this season that will be held at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit on October 13th-15th, 2023. Sandiaga assessed that MotoGP has a significant economic impact that could reach up to IDR 3.5 trillion. For that, he asked for the support from the public and the President. “What we expect is that this race would not gain the attention of Indonesian citizens, but also the world,” hoped Sandiaga. On the other hand, in a closed meeting with President Jokowi, Sandiaga says that his party was tasked in establishing new tourism destinations. The president also asked for innovations that has been well developed. “In well developed destinations, such as Nusa Dua, we should be able to add various innovations to provide spaces for government in improving the other five top destinations,” Sandiaga said. In his conclusion, he hoped that for the top five destinations in NTB, the collaboration between local government and the Tourism Ministry could be improved to gain more investment. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
