Indonesia will establish Tourism Fund for quality tourism, as ordered by the Indonesian President himself, Joko Widodo, says the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno. “We will establish Tourism Fund or some kind of funds that will support quality and sustainable tourism such as inviting international events, cultural events, sports tournament, or even Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition events,” says Sandiaga. Sandiaga then adds that tourism countries such as Singapore and Saudi Arabia have introduced the tourism funds earlier. The funds are established through good managements that is focused on green tourism. “We should not only look at the quantity of the tourists that came to Indonesia, but also for their quality based on how long they stay, how they moved the local economic wheel, or how they capable they are in providing employment in tourism and creative economy,” adds Sandiaga. For the source of funds, government is still figuring out on whether the funds would use the permanent funds, tourism sector foreign exchange, or other sources of funds. Moreover, the government have also formed a special team to study the case to establish a sustainable funds and able to improve national tourism sector. “The source of the funds will be studied so that its management would be safely secured, with the expectation it will not relying too much on State Budget or even the tourists,” says Sandiaga. Regarding the management of the funds, Sandiaga says that currently there are several options that will be determined soon. The options include the management funds under State-owned enterprises Ministry or the Ministry of Finance. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
