"We remain non-aligned, non-aligned. We will not side with any bloc. We convey this everywhere: free and active, we want peace with everyone," said President Prabowo in his state address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the DPR/MPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (August 15, 2025).

He emphasized that war is disruptive and that Indonesia does not want to be involved in any war and strives to avoid it.

"We do not want war. We must avoid war because that is the foreign policy that I am implementing and have announced: the policy of one thousand friends being too few, one enemy being too many," said President Prabowo.

In his speech, President Prabowo also conveyed Indonesia's success in becoming a full member of the BRICS economic and geopolitical cooperation forum on January 6, 2025. According to him, this membership represents Indonesia's efforts to uphold national sovereignty on the global stage.

"We are upholding Indonesia's sovereignty on the global stage. We have decided to join BRICS," said President Prabowo.

After joining BRICS, Indonesia is also in the process of becoming a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This makes Indonesia the first accession candidate from Southeast Asia.
